Capes Pró-Alertas/Cemaden-MCTIC: presentations and honorable mentions to AGORA Research Group
On November 30th, 2016, members of the AGORA Group attended the II Annual Meeting Capes Pró-Alertas/Cemaden-MCTIC, at the Technological Park in São José dos Campos/SP. The purpose of this event was to present the current state of the research projects related to the risks of natural disasters of the Program to Support Teaching and Scientific and Technological Research in Natural Disasters (Pro-Alertas Grant No. 24/2014), and to define new activities of the project for the next year.
During this event, researchers from different universities and Brazilian institutions, such as the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUC-RS), Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) and Rio Grande do Sul (UFRS), Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), University of São Paulo (USP) and the Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alert (Cemaden), were presented. In a poster session, they presented the main results of their research. As a result, new lines of current and future research were discussed, which will allow strengthening national collaborations within the Pro-Alerts project. For instance, some researchers from AGORA founded some common ideas related to the projects for monitoring water quality and the autonomous sensor boat used to monitor water sources developed by UFRN. Finally, the participants also had the opportunity to carry out a technical visit in the situation room of Cemaden, which allowed a greater understanding of how the center works in providing alerts in Brazil.
As a way of recognizing the best works, the organization of the event decided to give an individual honorable mention to Flávio Horita, a member of the AGORA Group and a PhD student at the ICMC/USP, for his work in cooperation with Cemaden and the quality of the results achieved. Finally, a collective honorable mention was given to the AGORA Group, mainly for the quality of the works developed and presented.
